Berhampur: Ganjam police today ordered for closure of hotels, tea stalls, and betel shops in the district by 8:30 PM till June 4.

The aim of this move is to prevent incidents of poll-related violence as such shops become hubs for political discussions that can escalate into heated arguments and fights.

Worth mentioning, June 4 is the date for counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls and Odisha Assembly elections.

Ganjam Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Meena has directed local inspectors to ensure that these shops shut down early to maintain public order.

Speaking to the media, the SP said, "We have requested the owners of tea stalls, betel shops, dhabas, and hotels to close their outlets by 8:30 PM to prevent post-poll violence. This precautionary step aims to avert clashes between supporters of various political parties."
