Ganjam steps up efforts to combat COVID-19

Berhampur: The Ganjam district administration, which has been recognized as a trendsetter in COVID-19 management, has further stepped up its strategies to combat the deadly virus.

As part of the efforts,  the district administration will observe COVID Week from September 24 to October 1. Under the initiative, mass awareness will be created in all urban and rural areas of the district, informed district Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange at a press meet here today.

Health staff will visit door-to-door  to trace people with COVID-19 symptoms. They will also check oxygen level of the residents during the survey. Besides, awareness rally with adherence to social distancing and competition on paining, debate and slogan with Coronavirus theme will be organized during the period.

A ‘COVID Rath’ will roll on the streets during the week to spread awareness about the disease. Shops and commercial establishments will be encouraged to strictly follow the guidelines. Stricter enforcement will be done to ensure that no one steps outside without wearing mask, said the Collector.

It is pertinent to mention here that the southern district had remained COVID-19 hotspot for over three months since May with highest single-day positive cases. However, the cases started decreasing in the district from mid August.

Currently, the district’s tally stands at 19,781, including 301 active cases. And, 218 patients have succumbed to the virus in the district so far.
