Gas cylinder blast in Odisha’s Balangir: Minor boy ends life after mother succumbs

Balangir: A minor boy ended his life after his mother succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment after a devastating gas cylinder blast at Belapada in Balangir district a few days ago.

After hearing about the demise of his mother Malati Mahakud, the minor boy died by suicide last night.

On receiving information, the Belapada police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.

Malati Mahakud was among six others, who were critically injured after an LPG cylinder exploded in the Belapada area in Balangir district last week. She died during treatment at a hospital in Rourkela last night.

With the death of the woman, the toll from the incident rose to five so far. Earlier, four persons had died during treatment following the incident.

According to reports, six persons of a family and neighbourhood were injured in a massive fire caused by a cooking gas cylinder explosion at home. Following the incident, all the victims were rushed to the Kantabanji CHC in critical condition. Later, they were shifted to a private hospital in Rourkela.
