Generous Odisha farmer earns praise from VVS Laxman

Bhubaneswar: Amidst the nationwide lockdown, the generous act of an Odia  woman farmer and her family has won the heart of former Indian batsman VVS Laxman. The cricketer today took to Titter and showered praises on Chhayarani Sahu, a farmer of Bhadrak district, for distributing her vegetable produces voluntarily among the needy in the locality and nearby areas.

In his post, VVS Laxman wrote, “The woman farmer and her family have been distributing their vegetable produces voluntarily to the residents of about 15 nearby villages. While people are suffering a lot due to the lockdown, it’s so wonderful to see people showing their humanity and selflessness.”

At a time when livelihood of many people has been affected due to the lockdown, Chhayarani and her family at Kuruda village in Basudevpur of Bhadrak district  have come forward to help the needy in their capacity.  She and her husband Sarbeswar are distributing quintals of vegetables produced on their backyard among poor people free of cost.

The family produces vegetables like brinjal, tomato, bitter gourd and pumpkins on their the backyard. Recently, the couple packed quintals of the vegetables and went 10 kilometres away to Basudevpur market hiring a pickup van.  With the help of a few social activists, the duo distributed two to three kgs  of vegetables to each poor family in Bansipatana, Bhairabpur  and Uchadiha areas.

Moreover, the couple provided around 20 litres milk to the local police station that was later distributed among cops and security forces engaged in COVID-19 duty in the locality.

This goodwill gesture has certainly earned immense appreciation and respect for farmer’s family from all quarters in the region.
