Ginger processing unit to be set up in Koraput

Jeypore: In view of large volume of ginger being yielded in tribal district Koraput, the government has decided to set up a processing unit of the produce at Kunduli.

The initiative has been taken by the district administration to provide the farmers a proper market.

In this regard, Koraput Collector Dr. Poma Tudu has discussed with the Regulated Market Committee (RMC) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Sources said that the RMC will provide a room where a machine will be installed to clean mud from the gingers and dry the produce.

The ginger processing unit will be functional soon, informed Odisha Rural Development And Marketing Society (ORMAS) Executive Officer Roshan Kumar Karthik.

According to reports, the gingers with high value are being supplied everyday from Koraput to various districts and states. However, the farmers are compelled to sell the crop at cheaper prices due to traces of mud all over it after yielding from the soil.

With the initiative to set up the ginger processing unit, the farmers will get appropriate cost from the traders.
