Girl NEET candidate ends life in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: A day before the conduct of NEET, a girl candidate allegedly ended her life at Budhikhamari Sahi in Baripada town of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district yesterday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Upasana Sahu (19).

According to reports, the girl was preparing for the test in Kota, Rajasthan and had returned home during the COVID-19 lockdown.

One of her friends allegedly died by suicide in Chennai yesterday following which she was upset and took the extreme step over the matter, the girl’s family members said. The body, which was found in a hanging state, was recovered by police for post-mortem.

A note was found near the body in which it has been mentioned that she was under mental stress over the possibility of not qualifying in the exam. A similar note was also found near the body of her deceased friend in Chennai, Upasana’s family members said.
