Girl pedals 35 Km to take her father on trolley rickshaw to hospital in Odisha’s Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A girl had to pedal a distance of around 35 kilometres to take her father on a trolley rickshaw to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Bhadrak town, today. The incident came to the fore after it caught the eyes of some denizens who later informed the local Administration.

Praises are being heaped on the girl by people from all sections of the society, a source said.

According to the source, the girl identified as Sujata Sethy is the daughter of Sambhunath from Dhusuri locality in the district. She carried her father in critical condition initially from Nadigaon village to Dhamnagar and again to the government-run health facility for the man’s medical treatment.

Sambhunath’s eldest child Sujata lives in penury, hence she left her school education midway. The girl usually takes care of her ailing father and works as a daily wager to meet the household expenses.

The man was severely injured in a group clash on October 22 and the 14-year-old girl carried him on trolley rickshaw.

“For not having much money and due to my illiteracy, I could not call the ‘108 Ambulance’ vehicle. However, I was compelled to take my father to hospital. We also returned back home by the trolley rickshaw after treatment of my father at the hospital,” the uncomfortable and upset girl expressed.

On being informed by locals, Bhadrak MLA Sanjib Kumar Mallick and former Dhamnagar MLA Rajendra Das reached the spot and discussed with the chief district medical officer (CDMO) in this regard.
