Girl raped by colleague in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: A girl was allegedly raped by her colleague at Pandakudia slum in Bharatpur area on the outskirts of Odisha capital on Tuesday.

According to reports, both the accused, identified as Jagannath Mohanty, and the victim work at a private hospital in the city. On December 3 evening, Mohanty had asked the girl to hang out with him, to which she agreed.

While the two had gone to Pandakudia slum, Mohanty allegedly raped her there. As the health condition of the victim deteriorated after the incident, the accused took her to the hospital, where he works, for treatment yesterday.

However, the concerned doctor suspected foul play and informed the Khandagiri police, following which cops reached the hospital and recorded the statement of the girl, on the basis of which the accused was arrested.

Police have registered a case over a complaint lodged by the parents of the victim and further investigation is underway.
