Girl student of private school sustains injuries after being beaten in Odisha’s Rourkela

Rourkela: A female student of a private school in Rourkela sustained severe injuries on her right palm after being beaten by her lady teacher in Sundargarh district on October 6. The victim has been admitted to a hospital in Basanti Colony of the city for treatment. The matter came to the fore today.

On the other hand, the accused teacher was dismissed from her job following a complaint made by the girl student’s family. Swinging into action, the school authorities removed her from service.

However, no FIR has been lodged by the girl’s family in this regard with local police, a source said.

According to the source, the girl is the daughter of a Government Railway Police (GRP) constable and resides in Railway Colony. She is a student of Plus II Second-Year Arts in the school located in Basanti Colony.

As the girl had scored lower marks in the subject taught by the lady teacher, the latter asked the victim student about it on the intervening day at around 1.00 pm. The student explained that she earlier met with an accident and was on leave for around two months to undergo surgery. As a result, she could not score good marks.

Things took an ugly turn when, in a fit of rage, the teacher picked up a bamboo stick lying on the floor and severely beat the girl.

After being severely beaten, the girl student collapsed on the ground. She was later rescued by some other teachers of the school and rushed to the private hospital.
