Girl student of residential school in Odisha found pregnant

Laxmipur: A Class X girl student of a residential school in Laxmipur block of Koraput district was found to be seven-month pregnant today.

After a special team from Koraput examined the Class X girl students of the residential school on December 4, the girl being talked about was found to be pregnant. The District Welfare Officer, Madhusmita Mohapatra and Child Protection Officer Rajashree Das later took the girl to a hospital for medical examination. The doctors informed the officials that the girl is seven-month pregnant.

Later the District Welfare Officer lodged a complaint at the Laxmipur police station in connection with this.

The ANM, who has been looking after the healthcare of the residential school’s girl students, said health checkups of all the girls are carried out every month as per the guidelines. Even the girl used to collect sanitary napkin every month from the ANM.

Meanwhile, the residential school’s Headmaster has feigned ignorance about how the girl student’s pregnancy.

The Headmaster further said the girl is a daughter of the residential school’s hostel staff. She had been staying at a staff quarter located in the residential school premises and not in the hostel, he added.
