GIS for Odisha Govt employees amended; more financial benefits for kin of deceased

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government today amended Group Insurance Scheme (GIS) for all State Government employees by increasing premium amounts by more than two-fold.

As per the decision, the employees with Grade Pay upto Rs 4,800 will now pay Rs 20,000 instead of Rs 7,500 towards GIS premium. The GIS premium rate has been increased to Rs 30,000 from Rs 12,000 for the employees with Grade Pay of Rs 5,400 and above.

As before, the GIS premium will be deducted from salaries of employees in 10 installments.

The Government has also increased financial assistance amount upto Rs 6 lakh for family in case of death of an employee while in service.

While the family of employees with Grade Pay upto Rs 4,800 will now receive Rs 4 lakh financial aid from the Government in death case, the amount has been increased to Rs 6 lakh for the kin of employees with Rs 5,400 and above Grade Pay.

Earlier, the financial assistance amounts were Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh for the employees with Grade Pay upto Rs 4,800 and Rs 5,400 and above respectively.

Similarly, the amount of financial assistance for conducting last rites of deceased employees has been increased to Rs 10,000 from Rs 5,000.

Worth mentioning that GIS is a social security scheme for the Government employees. If an employee dies while on the job, the family gets financial assistance under the scheme.
