GIS map portal ‘Bhubaneswar One’ wins Geospatial Excellence Award

Bhubaneswar: Web-based GIS map portal ‘Bhubaneswar One’, an initiative of the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) to provide information to residents and tourists on amenities available in the city, has bagged the ‘Geospatial Application Excellence Award’ for successfully using IT application for disseminating information.

The award was presented by Minister of State for External Affairs General Vijay Kumar Singh at Geo-Smart India 2019 event held recently in New Delhi, said a government release said today. BSCL General Manager Saroj Kumar Swain received the award from the Union Minister.

The website publishes a large number of geo-spatial data collected from various government organisations and departments like BDA, BMC, Department of Health, Department of Education and is being hosted in an integrated GIS-based platform for easy use.

Currently, initial phase called ‘Citizens Interface’ has been successfully implemented with base maps, datasets like Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) maps, revenue data, Airports Authority of India Zone Maps, Point of Interest data, etc. and other useful GIS functions for citizens.

BDA is in process of incorporating this portal with the Online Building Plan Approval System so that citizens can get the information like applicable NOCs, restrictive development areas, CDP land use, cadastral information, etc. BSCL shall soon integrate the ICOMC (Intelligent City Operations and Management Center), Smart City Systems, e-Governance applications, etc. with Bhubaneswarone.in for better service delivery and decision making.

Initiated by Geographical Information System (GIS) branch of BDA in collaboration with BSCL, the project was developed by ESRI India. ESRI India has developed ‘BhubaneswarOne.in’ on ArcGIS platform which is mainly used for creating and using maps, compiling geographic data, analyzing mapped information, sharing and discovering GIS-based information in a range of applications, and managing the database.

Geospatial Application Excellence Award was given for exemplary usage of geospatial tools in various fields like governance, infrastructure, public safety, emergency response, utilities, design and engineering, environment, agriculture, mineral exploration, transportation, business intelligence, insurance, disaster management, smart cities, land information, forestry and water resource management.
