‘Go Green’ initiative through electric vehicles and solar power by Jindal Steel & Power

Angul: In a significant effort towards making a positive impact on the environment and achieving net zero million , India’s leading steel producer Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) has installed 10 electric buses and 27 electric vehicles (EVs) at its Angul steel plant. This is a major step towards JSP’s commitment to environmental sustainability and decarbonisation efforts.

Naveen Jindal, Chairman, Jindal Steel & Power flagged off the electric vehicles and reiterated JSP’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability. “At Jindal Steel & Power, we are always striving for sustainable growth and environmental protection ,” said Jindal. “The introduction of electric vehicles and the commissioning of our extensive solar power units in Angul units are important steps towards achieving our net zero and fulfilling our commitment to build a cleaner and greener planet for future generations ,” he added.

JSP, Angul has placed orders for a total of 27 electric buses and 45 electric SUVs, all zero-emission vehicles. This change will not only reduce carbon emissions at the factory level but also increase operational safety by eliminating the use of two-wheelers in the factory premises. Apart from this, the company emphasizes on following global standards in the procurement of these electric vehicles.

Further strengthening its commitment to green environment, JSP Angul has installed a rooftop solar plant with a capacity of 21 million units per annum. The move is expected to reduce the Angul unit’s annual CO2 footprint by 18,000 tonnes, which is equivalent to the environmental benefits of planting 3.6 lakh trees over a decade.

With this important initiative, JSP continues to set benchmarks in the Indian steel industry by integrating environmental sustainability into its core management.
