Puri, Mar 25:

As India brace for the mouth-watering contest with hosts Australia in the second semi final of the ICC World Cup at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) tomorrow morning, ace Odisha sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has done what he knows best: cheering the Men in Blue with a sand sculpture with the inspirational message “Go India Go” at the Puri beach, his favourite playground, on Wednesday afternoon.

The six-ft high sand sculpture fittingly bristles with cricket imagery: a miniature cricket pitch on the foreground, a red cricket ball (Sudarsan obviously forgot that white – and not red – balls are being used in this World Cup) half buried on the green turf, a giant cricket bat across the turf with the “Go India Go’ message for the Indian team, topped up by a replica of the Cup that the teams are playing for.

“This is my humble way of wishing the team all the best for tomorrow’s match. I hope they would go on to win the Cup on Sunday,” said Sudarsan, an avid cricket follower.

Sudarsan says he used about 5 tons of sand and spent 5 to 6 hours to complete this sculpture. With the World Cup fever running really high, the sculpture attracted tourists by the droves this afternoon.
