Gold businessman robbed of jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: A gold businessman was allegedly robbed of jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh at gunpoint on a busy route in the state capital at around 10 pm yesterday.

A complaint in this regard has been lodged at Khandagiri police station last night.

As per the complaint, when businessman Om Prakash Sahoo was on his way back home at around 10 pm, three miscreants on a motorcycle chased him and later intercepted him near Shatabdi Nagar. The trio later decamped with the gold jewellery after terrorising him with a gun.

Acting on the complaint, Khandagiri police launched an investigation on the basis of CCTV footage.

“We have already begun a probe into the incident. The looters will be nabbed soon,” said police sources.

Meanwhile, locals residents have raised questions over police functioning in the state capital and alleged that law and order has deteriorated with incidents of snatching, loot and robbery being reported on frequent basis.
