Gold hallmarking now mandatory in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Quoting the Centre’s guidelines, Odisha Government has made hallmarking of gold jewellery mandatory in eights districts of the state.

Hallmarking of gold will now be implemented mandatorily in Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jajpur, Khordha, Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur districts. 

“Jewellers will be allowed to sell 14, 18 and 22 carats of gold jewellery. Gold of 20, 23 and 24 carats will also be allowed for hallmarking,” informed Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain today.

He further requested consumers to check hallmark before purchasing any gold jewellery.
