Balasore: A joint team of the GST and police seized gold worth around Rs 1 crore from a car at a toll plaza in Odisha's Balasore district on Tuesday night.

The origin of the seized gold was yet to be ascertained.

In view of the elections, the team was checking vehicles near West Bengal border, during which the cops intercepted a vehicle traveling from Kolkata to Baripada.

While conducting search, police found 11 packets containing 1 kg 578 grams of gold worth around Rs 1 crore. As the occupants of the car failed to produce necessary documents regarding the ownership of the valuables, police seized the gold.

Cops also seized the vehicle and detained the accused for questioning.
