Gold worth Rs 4 cr seized from moving train in Odisha; 2 held

Rourkela: Officials of Central Excise and Customs today seized gold weighing 12.9 kg from Mumbai-bound Jnaneswari Express midway between Rajgangpur and Jharsuguda today.

Acting on a tip-off about smuggling of the precious metal, the officials intercepted the train and conducted a raid. They later seized gold biscuits worth around Rs 4 crore. The train was en-route to Mumbai from Howrah.

The sleuths also detained two persons and are grilled them in this connection. The two detained are reportedly the residents of Mumbai. For further investigation, the officials later handed the two detained over to Bhubaneswar Central Excise and Customs officials, sources said.
