Golfer Amandeep claims her second title of 2015

Bengaluru, Aug 14:

Rookie Amandeep Drall staved off a strong challenge from Neha Tripathi and Vani Kapoor, carding 2 over 73 to walk away with her second professional title after the final round of the Rs.5 lakh 14th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Clover Greens here on Friday.

Overnight leader Amandeep, who fired a career best score of 6-under on Thursday, could not emulate her second round performance. Her round consisted of a lone birdie on the 17th hole and three bogeys on the third, ninth and 14th.

This effort was, however, still good enough for her to win her second title of the year. The Panchkula professional ended with a total score of 208 after 54 holes to give her a slender one stroke victory over Kolkata’s Neha, who finished with 209.

Neha, who started the day in third position came up with an effort of 1 under 71, the only under par score of the day. She started cautiously and carded a birdie on the second along with two bogeys on the third and fourth in her front nine.

She became more aggressive as the day progressed and started her back nine with a birdie on the 10th followed by an eagle on the 12th. She carded one more birdie on the 17th and needed a par on the last hole to pip Amandeep.

However, she faltered, something which she has been guilty of on several occasions this season and carded a double bogey on the 18th to quash her bid for her first title of the year. Two eagles were carded on the day, the second one by Priya Puri on the second.

Order of Merit leader Vani ended with a score of 210 to finish third. She carded three birdies on the second, 14th, and 15th but bogeys on the third, fourth, 16th and 18th undid her good work and she returned with a card of 1 over 72.

Sharmila Nicollet carded 1 over 72 in the final round to finish fourth. The Bengaluru golfer carded three birdies on the third, 10th and 11th. However, bogeys on the 14th and 17th and a double on the seventh meant she finished with 213 to continue her title drought this season.

Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal and Pune’s Shweta Galande ended tied fifth with identical scores of 223. Gursimar started with a birdie on the first hole but could not sustain the momentum and dropped five shots on the fifth, seventh, 11th, 12th and 14th. She ended with a birdie on the 15th to return with 3 over 74.

Shweta, winner here in 2013, played an error-prone round with a lone birdie on the fourth along with bogeys on the ninth, 11th, 15th and 18th. A double on the seventh added to her woes and she returned with a card of 5 over 76.

Delhi’s Gauri Monga finished with 224 to end seventh. Her round of 5 over 76 consisted of two birdies as against three bogeys and two double bogeys.

Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana and Trisha Sunil of Bengaluru finished with identical totals of 225 to tie for eighth. (IANS)
