Good news! Bhubaneswar among top ten cleanest rly stations in India
Bhubaneswar: Good news for train travellers! Bhubaneswar railway station has been declared as one of the cleanest railway stations in the country.
The Bhubaneswar station has beaten last year’s cleanest railway station – – Visakhapatnam – – which stood at 10th spot.
According to the latest round of cleanliness assessment study released by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal today, Bhubaneswar secured 9th position in A1 category stations this year. Bhubaneswar was at 13th rank in 2017.

Puri railway station has bagged 22nd spot in the latest survey against 37th last year. These two railway stations from the State, which come under the jurisdictions of the East Coast Railways (ECoR) were selected under A1 category.
The top ten railway stations under ‘A1’ category are Jodhpur, Jaipur, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Anand Vihar Terminal, Secunderabad Jn, Bandra, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam.
The survey puts Cuttack railway station at 30th position under ‘A’ category. Last year, Cuttack’s rank was 100.
Among others railway stations in the State, Palasa (20), Brahmapur (35), Jajpur Keonjhar Road (39), Rayagada (64), Khurdha (127), Bhadrak (160) and Sambalpur (239) were placed under ‘A’ category.
When it comes zone-wise, the North Western Railway topped the list, followed by South Central Railway while East Coast Railway was ranked third.
According to the survey report, compared to 2017, there is nine per cent improvement in top 100 stations, 14 per cent in the next 100.
The cleanliness ranking, conducted by the Quality Council of India, was started in 2016. Since then, according to the study, there has been a significant improvement in the cleanliness aspect.
In 2017-18, average cleanliness of stations went up by 18 per cent, and 61 per cent of all citizens covered in the latest round of the study said the cleanliness was “above average”, QCI chairman Adil Zainulbhai said.
Significantly, 47 per of the citizens felt train toilets are “cleaner now”, he said.
According to the study, 39 stations scored over 90 per cent, a major jump given that last year none of them were in this bracket. Besides, 161 stations scored over 80 per cent in the latest survey.
The parameters adopted for conducting the survey were ‘evaluation of process of cleanliness in parking, main entry area, main platform, waiting room, direct observation by QCI assessors of cleanliness and passenger feedback, with each of the parameters carrying 33.33 per cent.
