Good news! First COVID-19 patient treated with Plasma therapy recovers in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Amidst record spike in COVID-19 cases in Odisha, here’s good news that the first COVID-19 patient treated with convalescent plasma therapy has recovered from the disease.

“Happy to share that a 48-year old female patient of Cuttack who was the first patient of #Odisha treated with #PlasmaTherapy (at Ashwini Covid hospital) has recovered and is being discharged today,” informed State Health & Family Welfare Department today.

Recently, one unit of B+ve plasma was transfused to the patient at the Ashwini COVID Hospital.

In the first phase, the plasma collection was carried out from four convalescent donors at the State-run SCB Medical College & Hospital, which has been recognised as a nodal centre for a plasma bank.

So far, 13 patients have received plasma therapy in Odisha and most are recovering well.

Odisha is the third State after Delhi and Maharashtra to have introduced plasma therapy for the treatment of serious COVID-19 patients.

The Government has appealed to eligible COVID-19 survivors to donate their plasma, which would help in treating COVID-19 patients.
