Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today escalated the ceiling of health insurance coverage meant for working journalists under the State government’s Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana from the present limit of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, informed the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Bhubaneswar.
At least 8,717 journalists working in the State will benefit from this announcement.
As per the provisions envisaged in the scheme, the insurance coverage is given to five members of a beneficiary journalist’s family, including the spouse and three wholly dependent children up to the age of 25 years.

It is pertinent to mention, the ‘Odisha State Working Journalists Health Insurance Scheme-2016’ which was later implemented as ‘Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana’ is a welfare scheme.
Beneficiaries of the scheme are renewed every year and it provides for indoor and outdoor treatments. The insurance comes with a cover of an amount as decided by the Government from time to time.
