Goods train derails in Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: At least two wagons of a goods train derailed today near Bhalumuska station in Odisha’s Rayagada district, affecting train services on Koraput-Rayagada route, East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources said.

This is the second derailment on the same route within a week.

According to available information, the two bogies of the train went off the track between Lilliguma and Bhalumuska Railway Stations in Kalayansinghpur area in the district while it was bringing aluminium powder from NALCO plant in Damanjodi of Koraput district.

The incident occurred at around 6.30 PM, a railway official said.

No loss of life or damage to property has been reported so far.

Train movement through Koraput-Rayagada route has been hit following the derailment of the train.

Meanwhile, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has sent a relief train to the spot from its Rayagada and Koraput divisions.

Acting immediately, railway engineer, safety officer and mechanical engineer have rushed to the spot.

Divisional Railway Manager of Waltair railway division has ordered an officer-level inquiry into the accident. The ECoR has also informed Nalco authorities to look into the matter.

Two trains have been affected due to the derailment. Hirakhand Express has been stranded at Lakshmipur while the Rourkela-Koraput Express was waiting at Tikiri station. The railway officials have arranged food and water for passengers in the stranded trains.
