Gopalpur-Digha coastal highway will have bridge over Odisha’s Chilika

The Gopalpur-Digha coastal highway to be constructed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana will have a five km-long-bridge over Chilika-Asia’s largest brackish water lake.

A special meeting between senior officials of the National Highway Authority India (NHAI), project consultants and District Collector Arvind Agarwal was held here Friday in this connection.

Out of the 500 km highway to be built on Odisha under the project, 151 km falls in Puri district.

The District Collector during the discussions stressed for connecting Brahmapur and Mahisa villages to the bridge that would connect Satapada with Janhikuda. He further emphasized on connecting several bypasses to be constructed under the project to the national highway.

The 500 km long coastal highway which will start from Gopalpur will pass through Chhatrapur, Chilika lake, Satapada, Brahmagiri, Puri, Konark, Astaranga, Paradip, Ratapur, Satbhaya, Dhamra, Basudevpur, Talpada, Chandipur, Chandaneswar and end at Digha.
