Govinda Dwadashi 2023 Date, Tithi, Rituals, Significance

Govinda Dwadashi is observed on Dwadashi of the Shukla Paksha during the month of Phalgun in the traditional Hindu calendar.

It is an important day for the devotees of Lord Vishnu. They worship Lord Vishnu to seek His divine blessings for a happy and prosperous life.

Govinda Dwadashi is also celebrated as ‘Narasimha Dwadashi’ as ‘Narasimha’ avatar of Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day.

Govinda Dwadashi 2023 Date: March 3, Friday.

Dwadashi Tithi Begins: March 03, 2023 9:11 AM.

Dwadashi Tithi Ends: March 04, 2023 11:43 AM.

Rituals: Devotees wake up early in the morning and take ceremonial bath in sacred rivers like Ganga, Saraswati, Yamuna and Godavari. If such sacred rivers are not nearby, one can have this ritual bath in any local lake or river.

Devotees chant the names of Goddess Ganga and Lord Vishnu during the ceremonial bath.

They worship the ‘Pundarikaksha’ form of Lord Vishnu on this day. Several offerings are made to the lord in the form of fruits, flowers, sandalwood paste, til (sesame seeds), dhoop and incense sticks.

They also observe strict fasting on this day, which is known as Govinda Dwadashi vrat. The vrat observer eats only once after completing the puja rituals.

Consumption of alcohol or non-vegetarian food is not allowed on this day.

Devotees visit Lord Vishnu temples during the evening to participate in the puja rituals.

Chanting the name of Lord Vishnu and reciting ‘Sri Narasimha Kavach’ mantra is considered to be very auspicious on this day.
