Govt announces cash incentives for Odisha sportspersons

Bhubaneswar, June 18:

In an effort to promote sports in Odisha, the Sports and Youth Services department has announced cash incentives amounting to Rs 63.16 lakh for 120 sportspersons in the state.

The department  had disbursed cash incentives of Rs 1.02 crore among 113 players on June 20 last year. But since some of the eligible players had failed to apply for the same, the department has now decided to offer cash incentives of Rs 37.49 lakh to 66 sportspersons for their achievements between April 2007 and March 2012 and  Rs 25.67 lakh to 54 other sportspersons  for the period between April 2012 and March 2013.

The first chess Grand Master of Odisha Debasis Das would get Rs 6.50 lakh and woman shooter Sriyanka Sarangi would get Rs 4.37 lakh.

Among others players who would receive the cash incentive are young chess stars Kiran Manisha Mohanty (Rs 3.69 lakh) and Swayams Mishra (Rs 2.50 lakh), Utkal Ranjan Sahu (1.92 lakh), Sunyasakta Satapathy (1.55 lakh), Rakesh Kumar Jena (1.27 lakh) and Saina Salonika (1.15 lakh), Aruna Santa (weightlifting, Rs 2 lakh), Sunil Pradhan (Athletics, Badminton Rs 1.46 lakh), Roshan Minz (hockey, 1.10 lakh) and Sangita Singh (powerlifting, 1 lakh).

To department has decided to send the cheques directly to the players in their postal address
