Doctors working in government hospitals in Odisha have threatened to go on cease work and stage dharna in front of the Directorate of Health on November 4 if the government fails to fulfill their demands which include timely promotion, permanent appointment to doctors appointed on ad hoc basis and measures to protect doctors from attack by the end of this month.

According to reports, Odisha Medical Service Association (OMSA) is pressing the government for fulfilling 11-point charter of demands.

The 11-point charter of demands includes implementation of 4th pay band for doctors who have completed 20 years of service, provision of grace marks in the OPSC examination to doctors who have been working on ad hoc basis.

OMSA has demanded for deployment of security personnel in district headquarters and other headquarters hospital and provision of at least one personal security personnel for doctor doing duty in the Casualty.

Seeking immediate measures for protection of doctors on duty from attack, OMSA general secretary Kishore Mishra warned that doctors will resign en masse and resort to cease work in the event of government failing to meet their demands.
