“The police have killed innocent people and they have been doing so. They had been shooting innocent people earlier and are shooting them now. It’s high time the government should change its viewpoint of killing people,” said Odisha top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda.

Panda made the comments to querying reporters who sought his comments on the Friday night killing of five innocent tribals including a 13-month old child in firing by security personnel in Kurtamgarh in Kandhamal district while he was being taken to the District and Sessions Court in Parlakhemundi for production in connection with a case.

Panda is currently lodged in the Berhampur Circle Jail.

Social activist Swami Agnivesh too has condemned the killing of five innocent persons by security personnel.

“In my understanding the incident needs to be probed at the highest level-judiciary. The people who have been killed should get justice. Their kin should be paid a compensation of Rs one crore each. The policemen who have fired at and killed innocent people should be suspended.
