Sambalpur, Oct 1:

Much to the relief of the people in Sambalpur and other parts of western Odisha, the government offices will resume functioning from Tuesday, after almost one and a half months due to prolonged agitations by the lawyers of the region demanding permanent High Court bench.

The Central Action Committee (CAC) of lawyers of western Odisha has postponed its prolonged agitation following the move of the state government recommending the Centre to set up the HC bench.

However, senior member of the CAC Sureswar Mishra that the agitation will end only after a full-fledged High Court Bench is established here.

“The month-end agitation including economic blockade would continue as usual”, he informed.

Earlier in the day, the CAC members took out a rally to protest the stand taken by the Odisha High Court Bar Association against setting up of HC benches in western and southern Odisha.

They urged the HC Bar lawyers to refrain from such a stand since it hurts the sentiments of people of the western and southern regions and goes against the unity of the state.

“The High Court Bar Association needs to rise above narrowness and feel the very pulse of the people of the entire state instead of their vested interest,” said senior advocate Pradeep Bohidar.
