Grandma was my role model: President Droupadi Murmu

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu today revealed that her grandma was a role model for her during her childhood days.

Interacting with students during a brief programme at the Tapoban High School here on her second day of 2-day visit to Odisha, President Murmu expressed this in presence of Odisha Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

“I did not have any role model when I was a child. My grandma (father’s mother) was my role model. She was known for her courage and her service to mankind. She was lending help to people in their need. Whoever used to suffer from any health complication, or labour pain, she was quick to reach the site and offering her best service. At that time, we had no knowledge about anything, the nation and other countries,” Murmu told students.

President Murmu very often had visited the Tapoban High School during her college days and service period. She shared her childhood memories with students of the school during her first official visit to the school after assuming the charge of office of the President of India.

“I used to visit this school many a time earlier to get my relatives admission here. The situation was not much better during those days like present time. I belong to a remote village. The school at Uparabeda village where I attended my primary education had no concrete roof. We were studying under extreme circumstances. However, the situation has changed now and you all are very lucky that you are getting education amid better environment,” she said.

President Murmu wished the students to excel in their academics, adding that she felt very happy to see the alumni of this school who are holding prestigious posts in different sectors.
