Groom arrested from ‘baraat’ for deceiving another woman in Odisha’s Bargarh

Police, meanwhile, informed that the accused will be brought to Bhubaneswar today and produced in court following a medical examination. 

Bargarh: In a dramatic turn of events, a bridegroom was nabbed by Mahila police from his marriage procession on the charge of deceiving another woman in Bhatli tehsil of Bargarh district in Odisha on Monday night. The accused was identified as Aji Kumar Bhoi, a junior engineer at Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) Bhubaneswar. He was nabbed on the basis of a woman’s complaint who alleged that Bhoi had deceived her after sexually exploiting her.

As per reports, the woman had filed a complaint with Mahila Police a few days back, alleging that Bhoi had intimate relations with her since last two years on the assurance of marriage but later decided to marry another woman. Basing on the allegations, a case was registered under Sections 376, 323, 294, 313 and 506 of the IPC. Acting on the complaint, Bargarh SP directed Bhatli police to track down the accused.

On Monday, Bhoi’s baraat (marriage procession) was coming from Panigengutia village of Parjang in Dhenkanal to Behera Palli village under Bhatali police limits of Bargarh.

Just as the procession reached,  Mahila Police of Bhubaneswar Commissionerate led by Sub Inspector (SI) Shubashree Nayak and Bhatali SI Padmabati Mirdha reached the spot and nabbed Bhoi. While the arrest led to chaos, the baraatis, after much persuasion, agreed agreed to hand over the accused bridesgroom to the police.

Sources said the bride’s family had planned to gift a four-wheeler along with other expensive items to the bridesgroom. Following his arrest, police recovered gold ornaments which he was wearing for the wedding.
