Groom picked up from wedding venue in Odisha after found COVID +ve

Pattapur: The dreams of a bride were shattered after her groom was found positive for COVID-19 and he was picked up from wedding venue to a quarantine centre.

The incident occurred at Daseipur village under Pattapur police limits in Ganjam district of Odisha.

According to reports, Rajendra Dandia of Daseipur village had undergone COVID test four days back as per the COVID-19 guidelines by the administration for marriage, but did not get report. His wedding was fixed for May 21. As per the schedule, the members from bride side had reached his residence yesterday morning for rituals. Then, he along with his family members moved to the venue for marriage.

The local administration on Friday came to know about Rajendra’s COVID test report that was positive for the virus. While he was on the pandal with his bride for marriage, BDO Gayatridatta Nayak along with Tehsildar Srinivas Behera and Pattapur IIC Sabyasachi Mallick and other officials reached the wedding venue and picked the groom during rituals.

The infectee was kept in an isolation to prevent spread of infection. Besides, the administration directed family members of both bride and groom to remain in home isolation.

The wedding will be solemnised one month after the test report of groom comes negative for the virus, the administration said.
