Police have detained some youths from the spot over their suspected involvement in the incident, sources said.

The shops were set on fire after the peace committee meeting held in the presence of ADG, SP and local MLA where it was decided to extend cooperation towards restoring normalcy in the town, sources added.

In a related development, it has been decided to relax prohibitory orders in Soro for 6 hours from 10 am to 4 pm, informed Balasore Collector. On account of Id-Ul-Zuha tomorrow, the district administration would allow congregation for prayer. However, restrictions will be imposed on religious processions.

Notably, two groups had clashed on Friday night at around 9 pm when a Ganesh idol immersion procession was passing through Pathan Mahalla in Soro market in Balasore district. An altercation ensued between two groups followed by brick-batting, stone and bottle pelting in which at least five people were injured.
