Bargarh/Bolangir/Umerkote/Rourkela: Separate teams of Commercial Taxes (CT) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) sleuths today raided jewellery showrooms in Bargarh, Bolangir and Nabarangpur districts, ahead of Dhanteras.

According to a source, the raids were carried out as taxes were allegedly evaded by the jewellers.

Samaleswari Ornaments located at Mohanty Pada of Bargarh town in this district was raided by a five-member team in the morning and was underway till the time when this report was filed.

Similarly, searches were conducted on Banamali Jewellers located near Daily Market under Ward No-2 of Kantabanji town in Bolangir district. A 15-member team of Bolangir and Nuapada division officials led by Deputy Commissioner Kishore Chandra Meher took part in the raid, which is underway.

Laptops and several important documents of the showroom have been seized during the raid.

Views of the CT & GST department could not be obtained in this regard, despite attempts.

Likewise, the Department conducted searches at Sampradaya Jewellers near Andhra Bank on Raighar Main Road in Umerkote of Nabarangpur district and the surprise raid was still on.

Meanwhile, an eight-member team raided Kanak Alankar on the Main Road of Rourkela in Sundargarh district. Several important documents have been seized by the CT & GST officials.

Allegedly, the showroom owner was selling ornaments to customers without proper bills.
