Gujarat court awards death penalty to Odisha man for rape-murder of daughter

Surat: A special POCSO court here today awarded death penalty to a person for raping and killing his minor daughter in 2017.

According to reports, convict Budhia Das alias Tukuna, a native of Odisha who was residing in Pandesara area here, had repeatedly raped his 14-year-old daughter and later strangled her to death. The body was recovered from a secluded place near Dumas road here on June 30, 2017.

As per the prosecution, Tukuna had committed the crime while he was living with his second wife, who was not aware of his act. After the victim became pregnant, he murdered her. The incident came to fore during investigation by police as DNA of the foetus matched with that of Tukuna.
