Gujarat seeks Odisha’s help in cyclone ‘Vayu’ preparedness

Bhubaneswar: As Gujarat braces for Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Vayu’, the State Government has sought the help of Odisha in preparedness ahead of the calamity.

Gujarat Chief Secretary JN Singh said the Odisha Government with Central help had done a commendable job during Cyclone ‘Fani’. “I will talk to Odisha Chief Secretary about his experience and what could be implemented in case the need arises here in Gujarat. We will take useful inputs from them,” he said.

Aditya Prasad Padhi, Odisha Chief Secretary has assured his Gujarat counterpart of all possible help. “Discussion was held over evacuation procedures and our experience during cyclones Fani and Titli,” Padhi said.

‘Vayu’ is very likely to cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva around Veraval & Diu region as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed 145-155 kmph gusting to 170 kmph around morning of June 13.

Odisha Government had earned praise in tackling ‘Fani’ for large-scale evacuation ahead of the storm and restoration & rehabilitation works after the cyclone.
