Gurukul to be set up for Sri Mandir servitors in Puri

Puri: Bringing reforms in the centuries old Sri Mandir, the temple administration decided to set up a Gurukul for the servitors here in Odisha’s pilgrim city.

Following discussion with the Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has agreed to execute a proposal on setting up ‘Sevayat Gurukul’ by reducing the number of servitors for making their children highly educated and learned.

As per the decision, the children of the servitors will be enrolled at Gurukul, which will be offer courses related to Hindu scriptures in CBSE pattern.

The practical in the subjects will be held at Jagannath temple to make the students expert in conducting rituals of deities smoothly. The servitors’ students, who will be studying at Gurukul, will be provided free education.

Sources close to the development said, the temple administration has acquired around 10 acre at Samagara area near Malatipatpur for establishing the Sevayat Gurukul.

The process for introducing courses is expected from next year.
