New Delhi: Baisakhi also known as Vaisakhi is going to be celebrated on April 14 in Punjab and neighbouring Haryana. The festivity marks beginning of the Sikh New Year. Also, the harvest season begins on the day.
On the eve of Baisakhi, Guru Gobind Singh rallied Sikhs to fight against Mughals. Hence, this day carries much significance for the followers of Sikhism.
Also, the day marks the beginning of the Hindu solar New Year.
Sikhs take out Nagar Kirtans on occasion of Baisakhi during which Khalsas display martial skills. Sikhs recite Gurbani and sing hymns to pay tribute to Guru Granth Sahib.
Bhangra and Gidda dances are also performed on this day.
