Happy Reunion: Odisha woman marries ‘dead’ man

Jeypore: Villagers of Podapadar under Borigumma block in Koraput district were in for a surprise after a local man, who was believed to be dead over the last two years, returned to the village alive.

Later, the man’s wife, who had been living the life of a widow, remarried her husband as per the Hindu tradition.

As per reports, one Ghasi Amanatya along with few other locals had left for Andhra Pradesh two years ago in search of work. However, he went missing midway. His friends searched for him everywhere for days, but in vain.

Eight months after, Ghasi’s family was told that he had died. Thereafter, family and relatives of Ghasi performed a symbolic cremation of Ghasi in the village. Ever since, his wife Subarna was living as a widow.

Two months ago, the locals were taken aback after seeing Ghasi alive in the village. Upon inquiry, the man narrated his traumatic experience while working as a  migrant worker in the neighbouring state. Thereafter a village meeting was held, where it was decided to solemnize marriage of the couple again.

Subsequently, the couple’s marriage was solemnized at a Shiva temple in the locality in presence of family members, relatives and villagers.
