HC directs Odisha govt to allow brokers to work at RTO offices

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today said agents and brokers can work in the premises of the Regional Transport Offices (RTO) in the State.

Hearing a petition filed by the Motor Vehicle Field Workers’ Association, the HC directed the Transport Secretary to identify agents and brokers for their rehabilitation. The court further said as the livelihood of brokers and agents are involved the State government should reconsider its decision not to allow middlemen to work at the RTO offices.

After the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles Amended Act in the State, brokers allegedly demanded unreasonable money from people to help in getting license and other vehicle documents from RTO offices. Following this, the government had imposed restrictions on brokers in RTO office premises. However, the HC today overruled the government’s decision.
