HC grants interim bail to former Odisha MLA Yudhisthir Samantaray

Orissa High Court today granted interim bail to former Pipili legislator Yudhisthir Samantaray who is presently lodged in Jharpada Special Jail in Odisha capital.

According to reports, the High Court granted bail to former Congress MLA who was arrested in May last year on murder charges.

After the verdict, Samantaray claimed that he has been a victim of political conspiracy.

Samantaray, the political bête noire of ruling Biju Janata Dal MLA from Pipili and Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathi, was arrested from Chandrasekharpur area here for his alleged complicity in a murder case.

It may be mentioned here that Sushant Mishra, a Panchayat Samiti member, was fatally attacked in January last year near a private engineering college on Pipili outskirts while he was on his way with his mother to a hospital for treatment. Goons waylaid them and took Sushant to a nearby forest and killed him. Presuming him dead, the attackers abandoned him in the forested area.

Police rescued the badly injured Sushant and rushed him to the Capital Hospital. Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed.
