Cuttack, Jun 24:
The High Court in Odisha’s Cuttack today rejected the anticipatory bail application of Dr Motilal Gouda who is embroiled in a fake gazette notification for empanelment of pathology laboratories and hospitals for health check-ups.
Adjudicating over the case, the bench of Justice JP Das rejected the bail plea of Dr Motilal Gouda.
According to sources, the now suspended assistant director of Factories and Boilers had moved the Orissa High Court seeking relief on June 13 to avoid arrest.
With the top court turning down the bail plea, the arrest of the government official looks imminent.
Notably, Gouda reportedly issued a fake notification on October 16 last year to over 100 industries including the PSUs across the state enlisting the five empanelled pathological laboratories and hospitals and had allegedly made about Rs one crore as the kickback.
Further, the accused doctor sent e-mails to industries from his personal ID.
He had inked an agreement with Nalco for Rs 63 lakh and was planning to sign another for Rs 1.6 crore with the Nava Ratna public sector unit.
After the matter came to light, the state government suspended him and ordered a Crime Branch (CB) inquiry into the alleged irregularities.
