No headmasters in 1754 govt high schools in Odisha

School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra on Thursday informed the State Assembly that the post of headmaster in 1754 government high schools in Odisha has been lying vacant.

Apart from this, the post of science teacher in 1002 high schools has also fallen vacant, he addded. The minister while replying to a question by BJD MLA Priti Ranjan Ghadai, said there are 156 vacant posts of headmaster in several government high schools in Koraput district while more than 100 posts are lying vacant in Baleswar, Jajpur and Cuttack districts.

This apart, the highest number of 117 science teacher’s post has fallen vacant in Ganjam district as per the sources in the Statistics department, he told the House.

Referring to the vacancy of teachers and staff in 656 aided high schools in the state, Mishra said the 608 posts including the heamasters in 103 schools and science teachers in 136 schools are lying vacant.

The minister also said out of nearly 1982 block grant high schools, 34 of them are running without a headmaster while 717 schools have no science teachers. Besides, 85 schools have no sanskrit and hindi teachers, he said, adding that the total number vacant posts in these schools is 1189.
