Heat wave alert for nine Odisha districts for next three days

Bhubaneswar: The regional meteorological centre issued heat wave warning for nine Odisha districts for next three days.

The heat wave condition is likely to occur at some parts over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Sonepur, Nuapada and Boudh from April 27 till 29, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said in a release.

The vulnerable people especially infants and elderly people with chronic diseases are suggested to avoid heat exposure during day time.

The maximum temperature is likely to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius over the districts during next three to four days.

The thunder-shower is also on the cards for several districts during the next three days.

The districts such as Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Balasore and Keonjhar are likely to experience light rain or thunder-shower between April 27 and 29.

Meanwhile, the IMD has indicated the formation of a well marked low pressure over East Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal that may turn into a deep depression and further intensify into cyclonic storm FANI. However, there will be no impact on Odisha.

“The well marked low pressure area over East Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression over the same region and lay centered at 8.30 am on April 26 about 1140 km East Southeast of Trincomalee in Sri Lanka, 1490 km Southeast of Chennai and 1760 km South Southeast of Machilipatnam. It is very likely to intensify further into a deep depression during next 24 hours and a cyclonic storm during subsequent 12 hours,” the release stated.

It is very likely to move northwestwards off Sri Lanka coast during next 96 hours and reach near north Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coasts on April 30 evening. The cyclonic circulation extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level over interior Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh has become less marked, it added.
