Heat Wave condition: Odisha schools for Class I to Class 12 to remain closed on April 19, 20

Bhubaneswar: In view of the prevalent Heat Wave conditions in Odisha, the State government today announced that all schools including Govt, Aided, Private and Anganwadi Centre for Class-I up to Class-12 will remain closed on April 19 and April 20.

Taking to its Twitter handle, state I&PR department wrote, “Important Announcement: All schools up to Class 12 (Govt, Aided and Private) and all Anganwadi Centre will remain closed on 19th and 20th April in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions in the State.”

Mercury is on the rise at many places of Odisha and IMD regional centre here warned of ‘heat wave’ in the State. Twenty-eight places witnessed day temperatures above 40 Degrees Celsius today.

Baripada and Jharsuguda towns recorded highest day temperatures at 44.2 Degrees Celsius, followed by Bolangir (43.7), Boudh (43.7), Nuapada (43.6), Titilagarh (43.2), Sonepur (43.2), Angul (43.1), Sambalpur (43.0), Sundargarh (43.0), Talcher (42.8), Bhubaneswar (42.7), Cuttack (42.5), Bhawanipatna (42.5), Rourkela (42.4), Dhenkanal (42.0), Jajpur (42.0), Hirakud (41.6), Jagatsinghpur (41.5), Paralakhemundi (41.4), Chandbali (41.3), Deogarh (41.3), Kendrapada (41.2), Keonjhar (41.2), Nayagarh (41.0), Bhadrak (41.0), Bargarh (40.5) and Malkangiri (40.2).

“Due to prevailing Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation Maximum temperature (Day Temperature) maximum temperature (Day Temperature) likely to be more than 40°C and above normal by 3 to 5°C at a few places over the districts of Odisha during next 24 Hrs and slight fall thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha,” a mid-day bulletin of the regional centre stated.

“People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 1100 IST-1500 IST,” the weather bulletin mentioned.
