Heat wave conditions return to Odisha

With monsoon likely to hit Odisha coast in a week’s time, the heat wave conditions returned to the state with as many as seven places registering above 40 degree Celsius today.

After a temporary relief from gruelling summer post pre-monsoon showers, the hot and sultry conditions are back to make life miserable for people, especially in western Odisha.

Hirakud remained the hottest place in Odisha with 42.9 degree Celsius followed by Bolangir (42), Sambalpur (41.8), Bhawanipatna (41.5), Jharsuguda (41.4), Titlagarh (40.5) and Sundargarh (40).

Though the temperature was marginally low in Twin Cities, the humidity level was significantly high. The Temple city experienced humidity of 87 %.

Meanwhile, some parts of the state received rainfall today. While 38 mm rainfall was recorded at Keonjhar, Angul received 17 mm rainfall followed by 15 mm rainfall at Balasore and Chandbali, an IMD report said.

The Regional Meteorological Office here predicted that rain or thundershowers may occur at few places in southern Odisha in the next 24 hours.
