Heat wave grips Odisha; Malkangiri breaches 40 mark

Bhubaneswar: Intense heat wave conditions continued in Odisha as 14 places recorded maximum temperatures of above 35 degree Celsius today.

Malkangiri is the hottest place in the State, recording temperature of 40.5 degree Celsius, a bulletin issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said here.

Capital city Bhubaneswar witnessed maximum temperature of 37.6 degree Celsius, while Cuttack recorded 36.2 degree Celsius.

The western Odisha town Balangir recorded the maximum temperature of 38 degree Celsius followed by Jharsuguda 37.8 degree Celsius, Bhawanipatna 37 degree Celsius and Talcher of 37.9 degree Celsius.

The mercury touched 33.9 degree Celsius in Balasore, Puri (32.8), Keonjhar (33.7), Sundergarh (37) and Sonepur (37.6).

There is no respite soon from the heat wave conditions as the Met Department has predicted the maximum day temperature is likely to increase by 2 to 3 degree Celsius across the State in the next few days.
