Heat wave to continue for a week in Odisha

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, May 20:

While normal life in Odisha has been disrupted due to intense heat and humid conditions, the local Met office has predicted that the condition would prevail in the state for at least a week.

Heat wave“Heat wave like condition may prevail over Odisha for a week due to northwesterly dry and hot wind from northwest parts of India towards the state’s coast and clear sky conditions. Apart from this, a cyclonic circulation over east-central Bay of Bengal and subsequent formation of low pressure there in 48 hours has resulted in the continuation of flow of dry and hot northwesterly wind through Odisha coast. Under its influence, temperature ranging from 42-44 degree Celsius may prevail in most parts of Odisha barring a few coastal areas and hill stations in the state during the period,” said Dr Sarat Sahu, Director, Indian Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar, in a release here this morning.

He also said intense humid condition would prevail in the coastal and interior region as the sea breeze may not be strong enough during the period.

It may be mentioned that the heat wave condition went up alarmingly in the state yesterday with Titlagarh recording the highest temperature at 43.5 degrees while temperature crossed the 40 degree mark in seven places.
