Heatwave alert issued for these Odisha districts for next 2 days

Bhubaneswar: With surge in mercury across Odisha, heatwave is likely to hit several districts during next two days, according to Regional Meteorological Centre.

As per mid-day bulletin released by Bhubaneswar MeT today, heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Boudh, Balangir and Nayagarh on March 18.

The similar condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir on March 19.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area over central parts of south Bay of Bengal moved east-northeastwards and lay centered over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean. It is likely to move east-northeastwards, become a well marked low pressure area and lie over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea by March 19 morning. Thereafter, it is likely to move nearly northwards along and off Andaman & Nicobar Islands, intensify into a depression by morning of March 20 and into a cyclonic storm on March 21. Thereafter, it is likely to move nearly north-northeastwards and reach near Bangladesh-north Myanmar coasts around morning of March 22.

Under influence of the system, rain is in the forecast for some districts in Odisha.

According MeT, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Koraput and Malkangiri during March 20 and 21.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada during March 21-22.
