Bhubaneswar: Heatwave-like condition prevailed across Odisha as five places in the state recorded the maximum temperature of 40 Degree Celsius today.
The maximum temperature reached 40 Degree C at Titlagarh, Balangir, Boudh, Bhawanipatna and Nayagarh today, said the IMD in its weather bulletin.
Besides, five places in the state--Angul, Jharsuguda, Talcher, Phulbani and Nabarangpur—recorded the maximum temperature in between 39 Degree C and 40 Degree C, added the IMD.
As per the IMD bulletin, six places in Odisha--Chandbali, Sundargarh, Sonepur, Paralakhemundi, Rayagada and Rourkela—recorded the maximum temperature in between 38 Degree C and 39 Degree C.
The maximum temperature was 37.4 Degree C at the Capital city and 37.5 Degree C at Cuttack.
Besides, several weather stations in the state including Baripada, Keonjhargarh, Sambalpur, Hirakud, Malkangiri, Dhenkanal and Khorda recorded the maximum temperature in between 37 Degree C and 38 Degree C, said the IMD.
“The mercury soared at several places across the state. The maximum temperature reached 40 Degree C in the state for the first time in this year today. The maximum temperature is likely to go up by 2 Degree C at several places in the state in the next 4/5 days,” said Umasankar Das, scientist at IMD regional centre here.
